Help Patagonia help the salmon

Patagonia is a company that really do some great work.
Have a look at this effort they made helping the just send to my mailbox.
Only problem are that they only made it possible for people living in the US to send this mail to the Obama administration. So therefore I have right now send them a mail, asking them to change the pre-made mail formula so people outside the US also can join this movement, hope they will respond positively. If they do, then this will change from being a local US matter - to an international matter.

Fly fishing in Austria 2010

I've just returned from Austria and Slovenia, where I had a great week fly fishing with god friends.

Weather forecast had been bad for several weeks - cold, rainy, high water level, no hatches - and not at all fishable. In other words - Shitty conditions in most of the rivers!!!
You know - "Life is hard and then you die" - so I had no expectations what so ever for this trip.
BUT- as my good friend Robert always says - "We are lucky people" - and indeed we were, because it slowly cleared up a week before we were arriving, and when we came it was getting warm, sunny and with some hatchings slowly developing.
But it wasn't all the problems we were facing - the ash cloud from Iceland was another issue of importance, that cold spoil this trip, BUT again we were "lucky people". A few days before the wind changed direction, and the flights were flying on a normal schedule again - so our trip toAustria became a reality.

The week we had were absolutely outstanding. My best fishing experience were from a new and quit difficult beat, where you had to work for every catch. Difficult surroundings, difficult casts, difficult landings - isn't that what it is all about??!!!

The only river we couldn't go to was Soca, to much water, from the melting snow. Roomers said that some areas in Slovenia have had up to 10 meters of snow, and when that melts it is creating problems with the water level and the water temperatures = shitty conditions!!!.

The week went by way too fast, but I guess it always does when you are enjoying yourself in good company and with excellent fishing.

Anyway here are some photos from the trip to Austria.

Photographer Nick Hall has made a fantastic photo story about the native lifestyle in the Bristol Bay area, that shows how dependent they are of the salmon runs year after year - generations after generations.
Check out this little move Nick Hall made about their fascinating way of life, where knowledge is passed on from the elders of one generation to the next - a valuable way of living we in the "civilized" world seem to have forgotten, instead our elders are "stored" in elderly homes, together with their lifelong knowledge.

Alex Morton has published some of the best science to date on those impacts fish farming has on wild salmons, and she has seen that science is suppressed, ignored, twisted, and too often ineffective in driving to change. No wonder she is frustrated and willing to try a different approach. If we truly wish to save wild salmon we must get beyond denial, lip service, and unwarranted attacks.

Alex Morton begins her migration to Victoria. She will walk and boat the 500 km, hopefully gathering people as she walks, encouraging everyone on Vancouver Island who cares about wild salmon to get out, make themselves seen, and show Ottawa & Victoria how many people want wild salmon.

A Mission Statement from Alex Morton: The Get Out Migration is a call to action to make government aware that we want wild salmon to take higher priority than farm salmon. Farms belong on land. We will start walking from Sointula, at the north end of Vancouver Island, on April 23 and arrive in Victoria May 8.

Patagonia is a company that takes environmental issues very seriously, a prof of that is their new e-catalogs.
This is the way of the future, no paper and no chemicals used.
On top of that - this kind of catalog contain a lot more interactivity - an great features like videos, and live interviews etc.
Hope it inspires a lot more companies to follow this track.
