Bristol Bay communities have already chosen: 80% of the area's residents oppose the Pebble Mine. They don't want to risk the Bristol Bay fishery -- the backbone of the local economy and the sustainable food source for local communities and wildlife.

EARTHWORKS is supporting these Alaskan Native leaders, fishermen and residents around Bristol Bay who have chosen to say no to the Pebble Mine.

In November, we helped bring community leaders and commercial fishermen to meet with Anglo American at their London headquarters. They told company executives, in person, that their mine is not welcome.

And EARTHWORKS' No Dirty Gold Campaign has convinced 50 leading U.S. and U.K. jewelers -- representing more than $5 billion in annual sales -- to sign the Bristol Bay Protection Pledge.  Tiffany, Zales, Helzberg Diamonds and 47 more have vowed not to buy gold from the proposed Pebble Mine, and to support lasting protection for this special place!

The fight to protect Bristol Bay has received worldwide press attention, including prominent coverage in the United Kingdom from the BBC World Service, the Times of London and the Guardian.

Anglo American is feeling the pressure. But stopping a mine like Pebble takes a long-term commitment.
